Makhuvha Makhuvha is a Group CEO of Limpopo Economic Development Agency’s (LEDA), he has been in the financial services industry, in the banking and development finance sectors for over 26 years and had occupied strategic and senior leadership positions He has been part of
the initial team employed to spearhead the establishment of the On-Site Division of the Bank Supervision Department of the South African Reserve Bank in 2000. He also held various positions in major banks, namely Standard Bank group and Absa Bank group.
Makhuvha has been with the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) group occupying various senior management and strategic leadership roles for over 15 years. These include as Head of Post Investment Monitoring Department, where he was tasked with the responsibility to establish the department and build the team of highly skilled and professional individuals to manage over R90 billion of IDC’s private equity portfolio including loans and advances. He also occupied the role of Head of Risk Management Department of IDC overseeing all critical risks disciplines, thus, credit risk, operational risk, business continuity risk as well as enterprise-wide risk management. In 2012, Makhuvha was appointed (on secondment) to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the IDC until July 2018. At SEFA, he was task to integrate the merger of erstwhile entities and to develop and implement on an annual basis corporate plan of the agency. Over the last 14 months, Makhuvha has been the Chief Executive Officer of SA Ladder (Pty) Ltd, an investee of IDC, on an interim basis, tasked by the IDC with business turnaround.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Financial Management from the University of Johannesburg; an Honours Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCompt Honours) degree from UNISA; and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from the University of Venda. Furthermore, he has read and completed Leadership Development Programme (LDP) with the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Makhuvha has held directorships and chairmanships in boards of various companies and with expertise in strategy formulation and implementation; end-to-end of business risk assessment and evaluation for funding and investment purposes; portfolio management and turnaround of distressed businesses.
